ENG 274 - The Short Story

Course Description:
In this Aesthetics course students will read short stories focusing on the art of storytelling and the defining characteristics of the genre as it has manifested in a variety of historical and social contexts. Students will have the opportunity to screen cinematic interpretations of some stories, and will consider how different narrative styles contribute to the ethos of the genre, as well as explore the historical dimensions of literary practice. In addition to the course reading, students will concentrate on a single short story writer of their choice for purposes of guided research. Aesthetics Exploration. 3 credits
