Course Description:
From Cohan to Sondheim, from Kern to Lloyd Webber, the musical theater remains America's greatest contribution to theatrical literature. In this "Aesthetics" course students will study musicals through a variety of media, as many musicals have been adapted from literature and film to stage and screen. Students will read, discuss, experience, and write about this unique American art form and study musical theater's broad scope from dramatic operas to modern rock musicals.
